The SNES also seems to have more sound effects and they are of overall better quality Personally I liked the SNES' soundtrack better. So far all of the themes I've heard are completely different, they don't even try to emulate one another. Some enemies look pretty bad on the Genesis but I do prefer the way the phantom looks on the Sega version. The SNES has a higher color count, but so far the Genesis has more effects and more background variety. Even the clouds were static, no parallax scrolling On the Genesis, the light did not blink and the water was nowhere to be seen. On the SNES I noticed the barrel had a blinking light (first time I saw blinking lights on the SNES version) and the water had the wavy effect The Genesis uses a completely different background On the beginning of level 2 the SNES re-uses the same background as level 1 On the SNES the background is almost empty I also noticed on many occasions the Genesis has more complex backgrounds: The Genesis version also has the same wave effect for the water but it was more subtle and therefore less noticeable. In this area for example, the clouds were 4 different layers moving at different speeds in parallax scrolling. The Genesis has a much lower color count but I noticed it had an overall higher number of effects.
Notice the higher color count on the SNES version, however, save for the a wave effect on the water (the water can't be seen on the screenshot) the snes backgrounds had absolutely no effects, it was just a static image I also noticed the Genesis version seems a bit more zoomed in On the other hand the Genesis is darker in areas (artistically darker making it more appealing to the eye) and I noticed on average the Genesis sported more effects whereas on the SNES most of the times there were no effects at all. Some enemies look much better on the SNES. Generally speaking the Genesis version has a much lower color count. Personally I thought the SNES' theme was catchier The snes had an electric guitar theme whereas the Genesis had a more techno theme, but they were NOT playing the same theme, they used their very own theme. Some images on the Genesis' cutscenes had less detail thoughīoth intro also had completely different intro songs.
The first level is very short and this is a somewhat free-roam game.Īnyway I'm at the start of the second "level" now and here's what I found.īoth games run the same screens at the same resolutions but the SNES has more color and I think it applies a filter to them making them look less jaggy.
